Wenlock and Mandeville arrive at the Westerly Dealerships

Introducing Wenlock and Mandeville, the official mascots of London 2012 who arrived at Westerly Barnstaple, Bridgwater, Dorchester, Exeter and Yeovil in early January 2011 to help highlight the biggest sporting event ever hosted in Britain for which BMW is proud to have been chosen at the Official Automotive Partner with a range of models already falling within the organiser's target of 120g/km of CO2.  This involves supplying a fleet of over 4,000 vehicles for the duration of the games.

In the photograph of Wenlock and Mandeville, Wenlock is white and orange and Mandeville white and blue.  Wenlock is named after the small Shropshire town of Much Wenlock, where visitor Baron Pierre de Coubertin witnessed the annual sporting festival in 1890 and was inspired to to establish the modern Olympic movement.

Mandeville's name comes from the Buckinghamshire town of Stoke Mandeville, where in 1948 Sir Ludwig Guttmann organised a sports tournament for injured soldiers from the Second World War that became the forerunner of the modern Paralympic movement.
